UNITED BY POSTCARDS

“Please log on to the internet, I have sent some emails. It’s quite an urgent situation.”

“I’m happy…smiley I found many old friends through social media. Thanks to modern technology.”

Are you faced with this situation too, my dear friends?

Yes, it’s undeniable that the ease of internet connection usage makes us happy. Through personal computer or other modern gadgets (including cellular phone), everybody can access many applications easily; like buying something at online shops, sending mails to colleagues, exchanging happy news with friend through social media, and many more.

I am part of this euphoria and I really enjoy the moments when I can mingle with anyone I want to just by turning on my electronic devices and connect to the internet. Many years have elapsed and I now realized something, I didn’t have these nice memories and all those happiness moments before this era.

I remember my old hobby of writing to pen pals. When I was in my last grade of elementary school, I wrote and received many letters to some pen pals and each time I opened the letter from one of them, a special kind of feeling emerged. I still remember how my friends’ warm words made me happy anytime I read them.

Where are my nice friends? Where can I see their warm messages again, once connection is lost?

Sucked now in the routine of work, I realize that I need something special in my life, something more than my constant communication of emails via the internet. As I thinking of all those emails correspondent that will be buried by other new ones as time goes, I ponder on what I can do to utilize this modern technology to get some real messages of happiness?

Your first advice to me might be why not connect with old friends through social media! And the answer to that is Yes, I do find and connect with old friends through social media, but just intermingle with them there is not enough, I need more!

I need new friends, friends who can help me to see the whole world. It’s not easy for me to traveling abroad, but I really have a desire to discover the world and the many beautiful places within. I know I can always see many pictures of special places by easy goggling. But for me just looking at pictures only is not so interesting!

I like to interact with people, whether its people I know or even with people I don’t know. Exchanging stories with people is my favorite activity in my spare time after hectic day of working and handling home business.

Subsequently I started a new hobby of writing postcards and I enjoyed it. After extend period of postcard swapping, I discovered a web service that allow me to send and receive surprising postcards from around the world. Oh wow this is it; this brings a new euphoria for me. Receiving postcards from France, Poland, Finland and even Guyana !!

I never dream of getting a postcard from Guyana. And this makes me so very happy….

A Postcard from Guyana

I also received a surprising postcard all the way from Malaysia. I already have a postcard pals there, a very generous and kind hearted lady whose name is Anny.

She sent some beautiful postcard to me, along with beautiful stamps on them. Can you believe that exchanging postcard makes the world seemed narrow?

Ahaaw… there are many people out there exchanging postcards, but still my destiny was to meet Anny through Postcard United. Anny and I are so happy to continue our friendship, thank you Postcard United. This new found friendship makes me feel like I have connected with my old best friend (but she is my new friend).

Here in my country Indonesia, there are many postcrosser and I communicate with them through social media and swap postcards with them.  But still it surprised me to receive Indonesian postcard from Postcard United member. Oh wow… it really is a small world; I believe postcards can really unite us, whichever part of the world it may come from and whomever it may come from.

We can use modern technology to relish our old hobby of corresponding, so let continue to enjoy our days by sending and receiving postcard. Thanks to Postcard United who is really making many people around the world unite through postcards exchange.

Let’s spread happiness by exchanging postcard to everybody.
